Blog It looks good.
Real good. Doesn't it?
I love Empacher Boats. Who doesn’t? Am I right?
If I were a betting man I would say rowers love the yellow. It is unique. It’s beautiful.
A fun fact about Empacher is that their custom yellow paint is almost impossible to get a hold of. You have to spend hours upon hours changing tones in the mixer to get it just right. At the time we started this project we had signed a deal with Scherwin Williams to get an entire paint matching system into our shop. This was the first boat we painted with the new system.
Dan and I tirelessly stripped down the entire shell to make it just right for Whitman High School Rowing. We taped off all the black lines, found the proper paint, mixed it, filled and fared (properly) all of the minor scratches and made this boat our top priority. I remember seeing the boat go into the booth and thinking to myself “this is going to be flawless.”
It came out with….lots of imperfections.
To fix it, you must wet sand using 1500 and 2000 grit sand paper. Following the wet sand you have to buff out the entire boat with a 2 stage buff (compound and polish). The picture here is after we completed the wet sand and started assembling the boat.
We committed over 20 man hours in the post paint process and it was worth every minute!
